Bitcoin, a peer-to-peer payment system and digital currency introduced as open source software in 2009, won Crunchies Best Technology Achievement award for the Year 2013 at 7th Annual Crunchies Awards.
GigaOm’s Tom Krazit and Khosla Ventures Keith Rabois awarded the prize to Satoshi stand-in Peter Vessenes, Chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation.
Introduced in 2009 and after less than four years of steady growth, the cryptocurrency is now top-of-mind for most of the world’s ecommerce service providers. Bitcoins are already accepted by various providers worldwide.
The award was given to the idea and the hard-working men and women around the world who are maintaining, mining, and improving the BTC protocol.
